Internal Floating Roofs
Internal Floating Roofs to reduce emissions
Internal Floating Roofs (IFRs) are installed in atmospheric storage tanks to reduce emissions from volatile hydrocarbons and chemicals. Recognised as the Best Available Technique (BAT) and Best Available Control Technique (BACT), IFRs provide highly effective emission control without being an end-of-pipe solution.
Extensive testing over the past decades has demonstrated emission reductions exceeding the most stringent environmental standards, including EPA (USA) and BREF Storage (EU, IPPC 2006). At the same time, CTS IFRs meet the strictest construction and safety standards, such as: API 650, EN 14015, EEMUA 159, NFPA 11, ATEX and local codes. Ensuring compliance with safety whilst optimizing the environmental performance of the atmospheric storage tank.

Full-Contact Honeycomb IFR
Our designs are thoroughly engineered to maximize strength whilst maintaining a lightweight. We only use exceptionally strong aluminium panels, reinforced with a sealed honeycomb structure. Each module is fully seal welded and pressure tested at our factory, guaranteeing leak-tightness, whilst patented panel connection systems ensures seamless assembly on-site.
Our Full-Contact HC IFR will completely cover the stored product surface, doing so it achieves emission reductions exceeding 98%, while our low-profile design maintains a maximum tank capacity. We are proud to state that we achieve an impressive 200% of excess buoyancy, calculated for stored products with a specific gravity of 0.7 per API 650 Appendix H.
In addition our Full-Contact HC IFR is tested as fire-safe and allows the implementation of fire-fighting infrastructure configurations for rim-fire scenarios (NFPA 11). To enhance the safety as well as the performance, all roof penetrations and seals feature a 150 mm high upstanding rim preventing product accumulation.
Where safety is of key importance, through our experience we are also well aware that maintaining flexibility is very pleasant when it comes to storing hydrocarbons. Our Full-Contact HC IFR designs offer the possibility to be fitted with a variety of rim seal designs. This ensures that the IFR will remain suitable throughout its long-lifespan, in case the storage tank is to be converted.

Skin & Pontoon IFR (non contact)
Our designs are thoroughly engineered to offer strength and durability. Our Skin & Pontoon IFR features 10” tubular aluminium pontoons which support an aluminium deck skin, fully covering the tank surface.
Maintaining structural stability has been a major challenge for many producers of Skin & Pontoon IFRs. That is why our designs feature adjustable legs, ensuring that structural stability is maintained. In addition, our designs make use of specialised clamping bars to create liquid- and vapour-tight seals. As a result our designs are leading on emission control as well as preservation of the product in storage, helping our clients to contribute to their regulatory compliances.
